2025 Global Offshore Wind Power Review and Outlook
The 2025 Global Offshore Wind Conference special issue, authored by the Wind Energy Professional Committee of China Renewable Energy Society (CWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), reviews and forecasts offshore wind power development. In 2024, global new grid-connected offshore wind capacity reached 8 GW, a 26% decline from the previous year, primarily due to delays in China, the UK, and the US. Cumulative capacity grew to 83.2 GW, with China contributing half. Europe added 2.7 GW, led by the UK, Germany, and France. Floating offshore wind cumulative capacity reached 278 MW, with Norway, the UK, and China leading. The report highlights challenges such as complex approvals, grid bottlenecks, and supply chain issues, while emphasizing the need for international cooperation. It provides data-driven insights for policymakers and investors to support sustainable industry growth and energy transition.
