New Energy Storage Industry: 2025 H1 Status & Trends
In the first half of 2025, China's new energy storage industry experienced significant growth, with cumulative installed capacity of power energy storage reaching 164.3 GW, a 59% year-on-year increase. New energy storage alone surpassed 101.3 GW, marking a 110% rise. Lithium-ion batteries dominate the market, while pumped hydro's share fell below 40% for the first time. The application structure shifted towards independent energy storage (55%) and new energy distribution and storage (31%), with user-side applications declining. Project numbers surged, with 680 new projects totaling 23.0 GW put into operation, a 68% increase in both power and energy scale. Notably, the first gigawatt-hour all-vanadium redox flow battery project and large-scale lithium-sodium hybrid storage systems were deployed. Non-lithium technologies achieved breakthroughs, diversifying the energy storage landscape. The report highlights a trend towards larger-scale projects and accelerated technological diversification, driven by policy adjustments and market demand.
